Cycling and walking routes consultation – act now
|
Essex County Council is consulting on a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) covering Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell – and it contains almost all the cycling routes we’ve been asking for in those towns.
|
An LCWIP could unlock government funding for improvements that make cycling and walking safer and more attractive. It only takes a few minutes to respond to the survey, and it’s a great way to show the council there are people that care about this in Epping Forest.
|
The consultation also covers Waltham Abbey, so if you know both areas, please fill the consultation out twice.
|
We’d also like to hear your views, so once you’ve told the council what you think, why not tell us too? Just reply to this email to get involved.

What we’ve been doing
In the last few months our campaigners have responded to Epping Forest District Council’s South Epping Masterplan, have given feedback about the new Essex Cycling Strategy, and we’ve been working with other Cycling UK campaigners to better represent cycling to Essex County Council and their highways team. We've met with the Essex bus team and we'll keep pressing for better regulation. We’d love to see you at our next in-person meeting, or have your virtual help with our campaigns if that suits you better – hit reply to get in touch.

Help get unaffordable roads scrapped!
The Transport Action Network is asking you to write to Transport Secretary Louise Haigh, asking her to scrap wasteful new road schemes rather than cut back funding for public transport and safer streets. Their web site makes it easy to send your message: ask her to ensure that some of the money saved is used to fill potholes and invested in active travel and public transport, to grow the economy and increase opportunity for everyone.

Mail Rail
Our post has been transported by rail for almost 200 years. We urgently need to reduce carbon emissions from transport, and that means transporting less freight by road and more by rail. However, in July 2024, Royal Mail announced that it was scrapping the last of its fleet of mail trains.
|
This deeply concerning decision undermines the huge economic and environmental benefits of rail freight, and could result in many more lorries congesting our roads and polluting our air.

Help the Campaign for Better Transport campaign to find a solution.
