Welcome to our Easter newsletter on all things "better transport" in Epping Forest.

Demand Responsive Transport: DaRT87

DaRT87 is a new pre-booked minibus service trial replacing the Arriva 87, and has now been funded by Epping Forest District Council until April 2022. This is great news, especially for anyone needing to access Princess Alexandra Hospital, St Margaret’s Hospital, or Epping Forest Retail Park in Debden. It provides a rapid service between Harlow, Epping and Loughton, as long as you can plan your journey a little in advance. If you want to use the service, you need to sign up via EFDC.

StopSwapGo

StopSwapGo is an initiative by Essex County Council to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and walk, cycle or take the bus instead. On offer are Amazon or Love2Shop vouchers and even a chance to win a new bike if you take part. Do read more in our blog post.

Chigwell Cycling

EFTAG are delighted that the Chigwell Residents’ Association, with the support of the Parish Council, are installing cycle parking in several Chigwell locations. There’s so much possibility for cycling in the east of the district, including exciting connections with Transport for London’s Quiet Route 6, so please do get in touch if you can help us campaign to make it happen.

Consultations

Essex County Council are currently running two important consultations: one about the recent report from the Essex Climate Action Commission, and one on Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (also known as LCWIPs). The latter is disappointing because there still isn’t an LCWIP for Epping Forest - but your response (if you give your postcode!) could be the tipping point that shows we need one here too. Without an LCWIP it’s unlikely we’ll get any meaningful improvement to conditions for walking or cycling in the near future. Please respond to both consultations if you can.

Election

There are local elections in May. If there’s anything you think we should ask the candidates, please do get in touch by Monday.

Thanks to everyone that signed up to be a member of EFTAG. As well as giving you a formal say in how we run things at our AGM, it shows councillors and other decision-makers the strength of support in our community for better transport.
