Demand Responsive Transport: A Solution For The Elusive Rural Bus?

Transport writer Geoff Marshall has put together the above video for his Youtube channel all about a new example of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) in Sevenoaks and the surrounding area (there are other such services elsewhere in the UK).

The video explains how the service works, based on a software platform from a company called ViaVan, users are able to use an app or make a call to request a bus to take them from their bus stop to wherever it is they want to go within the defined area.

With Epping Forest also having an urban centre with a number of small villages sat in the surrounding countryside, perhaps this offers a way for places where a bus service is difficult to finance to once again have a public transport connection.
